Ex-Mutants: The Shattered Earth Chronicles #1

Ex-Mutants: The Shattered Earth Chronicles #1 was published by Eternity Comics in 1992 as part of a relaunch of the original Ex-Mutants concept. The series originated in the mid-1980s as a gritty post-apocalyptic narrative centered on genetically altered humans fighting for survival in a ruined world, drawing inspiration from the prevailing trends of dark, dystopian science fiction and superhero deconstruction popular in independent comics at the time.

This specific iteration was created by writer David Lawrence and illustrator Kevin West, who sought to refine the mythology and character dynamics of the earlier black-and-white indie comics. While the title is remembered for its distinct aesthetic that leaned into the colorful yet intense sensibilities of the early 1990s, the series remains a niche artifact of the speculative fiction boom, reflecting the era's fascination with mutation-based power fantasies and serialized world-building.
