Ex-Mutants: The Shattered Earth Chronicles #11

Ex-Mutants: The Shattered Earth Chronicles #11 was published in 1993 during the final stretch of the series' run at Malibu Comics. The story emerged from a period of shifting editorial focus for the title, which had transitioned from its original independent roots at Amazing Comics to the Ultraverse-integrated landscape of Malibu. This issue continues the post-apocalyptic narrative centered on genetically engineered humans navigating a hostile, mutated landscape, reflecting the grit and high-stakes sensibilities common in early 1990s independent superhero comics.

The visual design of the series evolved significantly throughout its existence as it moved through various creative hands. The aesthetic was generally defined by the hyper-detailed, dynamic anatomy typical of the era's house style, emphasizing the grim survivalist themes of the plot. While the series garnered a dedicated cult following during its tenure, it remains a distinct relic of the independent comic boom, representing the experimental and often chaotic creative freedom present in the pre-crash market of the mid-1990s.
