Ex-Mutants: The Shattered Earth Chronicles #12

Ex-Mutants: The Shattered Earth Chronicles #12 was published in 1993 by Malibu Comics as part of their Ultraverse line. This series emerged during a period of experimentation for independent publishers, depicting a post-apocalyptic world where genetically altered humans sought to survive a hostile, mutated landscape. The title itself serves as a conclusion to the second volume of the saga, which had transitioned from its original, more satirical roots into a more conventional superhero action narrative.

The visual direction for this era of the series was defined by a shift toward the dynamic, muscular aesthetic that dominated early nineties comic book art. Like many titles from the Ultraverse, the issue relied on dramatic character designs and high-stakes plotting intended to appeal to the collector-focused market of the time. While the series maintains a niche status today, it remains a notable example of the creative risks and stylistic shifts undertaken by Malibu Comics before their eventual acquisition by Marvel.
