Ex-Mutants: The Shattered Earth Chronicles #5

Ex-Mutants: The Shattered Earth Chronicles #5 was published in 1993 as part of a relaunch by Malibu Comics under their Bravura imprint. The series originated from the earlier Eternity Comics run, which centered on a group of genetically altered heroes navigating a post-apocalyptic world. This later iteration sought to provide a more mature, creator-owned narrative space, shifting the tone toward darker, more character-driven storytelling that reflected the trends of the independent comic boom in the early nineties.

The creative direction for this series was heavily influenced by the visual sensibilities of the era, emphasizing gritty aesthetic choices and complex world-building. While the property began as a high-concept sci-fi adventure, the Bravura run aimed to refine the character arcs of its protagonists. The series was received as a niche entry within the competitive landscape of independent publishing, remembered primarily for its distinct place in Malibu Comics' ambitious attempts to elevate creator-driven titles before the company was eventually acquired by Marvel.
