Ex-Mutants: The Shattered Earth Chronicles #15

Ex-Mutants: The Shattered Earth Chronicles #15 was released in 1993, falling within the later stages of the series' transition to Malibu Comics' Ultraverse imprint. The title originated in the late 1980s as a gritty post-apocalyptic narrative focusing on humans mutated by a corporate experiment gone wrong, aiming to survive in a hostile landscape. By the time this issue was published, the series had undergone multiple shifts in publisher and creative direction, reflecting the volatile nature of the independent comic market during the early 1990s.

The visual direction of this era was influenced by the aesthetic trends of the time, characterized by high-action layouts and the distinct stylized musculature prevalent in 90s superhero art. As a mid-nineties product, the issue serves as a snapshot of the industry's attempt to reconcile the original premise of the title with the editorial demands of a shared universe. It remains a modest relic of an era when independent publishers frequently experimented with crossovers and revamped legacies in pursuit of shifting reader demographics.
