Ex-Mutants: The Shattered Earth Chronicles #13

Ex-Mutants: The Shattered Earth Chronicles was an American comic book series launched in the late 1980s, primarily known for its post-apocalyptic narrative set in a world ravaged by nuclear fallout. Published initially by Eternity Comics and later by Malibu Comics, the series centered on a group of mutants created to combat the remnants of human civilization. The tone of the series was heavily influenced by the gritty, high-stakes science fiction aesthetic common in independent comics of that era, focusing on themes of survival and moral ambiguity.

Issue number 13 arrived as part of the series' transition through various creative shifts, a period often characterized by experimentation with character design and narrative scope. The visual style typically employed the dynamic, often hyper-detailed linework associated with the late-80s indie scene, aiming to evoke a sense of desolate scale. While the series garnered a dedicated cult following for its unconventional premise, it remains a distinct artifact of the independent comic boom that sought to challenge the dominance of mainstream superhero titles during that time.
