Where it came from
Excalibur number 56, published in November 1992, represents a pivotal moment in the series' middle period. Set during the era where the team was navigating the fallout of various interdimensional conflicts, this issue reflects the creative shift toward more character-driven, ensemble-focused storytelling that defined the title during the early nineties.
The issue features art by Alan Davis, a central figure in the history of the Excalibur series. Davis, known for his clean, expressive lines and fluid dynamic action, co-created the team and returned to both write and illustrate this period. His return was highly anticipated by readers, as he was credited with establishing the unique, whimsical, and often surreal tone that set the series apart from the more grim-and-gritty aesthetic common to other Marvel titles of the time.
