Where it came from
G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #155, published by IDW Publishing in 2010, serves as a significant milestone in comic history as the direct continuation of Larry Hama's original Marvel Comics run. After the series concluded at issue #155 in 1994, fans campaigned for years to see the narrative threads picked up where they were left off. IDW eventually secured the rights and invited Hama to return, essentially treating his new script as the canonical issue #155.5, effectively bridging the gap of over fifteen years.
The creative direction for this issue was deeply rooted in nostalgia, aiming to replicate the tone and visual language that defined the 1980s toy-line tie-in. Larry Hama, the architect of the G.I. Joe mythos, returned to write the issue, ensuring that the character voices and military-action pacing remained consistent with the source material. The project was received with considerable enthusiasm by long-term collectors, serving as both a bridge for the original readership and a testament to the enduring influence of the G.I. Joe franchise within the medium of comics.
