Guardians of the Galaxy #5

Guardians of the Galaxy #5, published in 2008, serves as a pivotal installment in the series written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. This run followed the events of the Annihilation: Conquest crossover, which reassembled the team in a modern format that laid the narrative foundation for the later film adaptations. The issue is noted for its exploration of the team's internal dynamics and their struggle to maintain a functional base on Knowhere while navigating the political fallout of the Phalanx invasion.

The interior art for this issue was primarily handled by Brad Walker, who utilized a kinetic, high-detail style characteristic of the cosmic Marvel aesthetic of the late 2000s. The cover art, featuring the core team, reflects the gritty and somewhat irreverent tone established by the writers to differentiate the Guardians from traditional earthbound superhero groups. The series was well-received by fans of Marvel's space-faring lore, ultimately gaining significant critical importance for pivoting these characters from obscure legacy figures into central players in the Marvel Universe.
