Ketteiban, Kamui-Den Zenshū: Dainibu #7

Ketteiban, Kamui-Den Zenshū: Dainibu represents the definitive collection of Sanpei Shirato’s monumental gekiga epic, Kamui-den. Originally serialized in the groundbreaking manga magazine Garo starting in 1964, the series examined feudal Japanese society through a sophisticated lens of class struggle and dialectical materialism. This specific installment, issue number 7 of the second part, continues the saga of the runaway ninja Kamui as he navigates a landscape defined by extreme social hierarchy and political instability.

Sanpei Shirato, alongside his brother and assistant Tetsuya Okamoto, crafted the series with a raw, cinematic visual style that prioritized movement and gritty realism over the more stylized conventions of the era. The Zenshū editions were designed to preserve the dense, intricate brushwork of the original Garo run for future generations, serving as a comprehensive archive of one of the most influential works in the history of Japanese comics. The series is widely recognized for its profound impact on the gekiga movement and its willingness to tackle complex philosophical themes.
