Ketteiban, Kamui-Den Zenshū: Dainibu #6

Ketteiban, Kamui-Den Zenshū: Dainibu represents the definitive collected edition of Sanpei Shirato’s monumental gekiga epic, Kamui-Den. Originally serialized beginning in 1964 in the avant-garde manga magazine Garo, the series revolutionized the medium by blending historical feudal realism with profound Marxist socio-political commentary. This specific archival project was curated to preserve Shirato’s intricate, gritty linework and dense narrative world, which documented the struggles of the outcast burakumin class against the rigid hierarchies of the Edo period.

The design of this definitive series emphasizes the weight of Shirato’s storytelling, favoring high-quality paper and binding to showcase the kinetic energy of his action sequences alongside the nuanced, text-heavy world-building that defined his career. As a foundational work of the gekiga movement, the Zenshū editions are regarded by scholars and enthusiasts as essential artifacts of Japanese counter-culture, intended to provide readers with a comprehensive, uninterrupted experience of a work that fundamentally altered the intellectual landscape of manga in the mid-twentieth century.
