Ketteiban, Kamui-Den Zenshū: Gaiden #3

Ketteiban, Kamui-Den Zenshū: Gaiden is a definitive edition series that collects the expansive narrative universe created by Sanpei Shirato. The original Kamui-Den saga, which began in the mid-1960s, is widely regarded as a seminal work of gekiga manga, known for its complex social commentary, historical realism, and unflinching look at the Tokugawa shogunate's class structure. The Gaiden series specifically focuses on peripheral tales and character backstories that deepen the lore of the main series.

The design of these definitive volumes aims to preserve the raw, stark aesthetic of Shirato's ink work while providing a high-quality archival experience for contemporary readers. By compiling the various side stories into this consistent format, the publisher emphasizes the philosophical weight of the work. The series has been received by critics and scholars as a monumental preservation effort, allowing new generations to appreciate Shirato's dense, politically charged storytelling style.
