Where it came from
La Zorra y el Cuervo was a prominent Cuban satirical magazine that began publication in the mid-1960s. Emerging from the post-revolutionary cultural landscape, the magazine utilized sharp caricature and biting wit to comment on both domestic societal challenges and international geopolitical shifts. It served as a vital platform for Cuban graphic artists to experiment with political satire within the state-supported media ecosystem.
The publication was notable for its distinct aesthetic, which combined bold, modernist illustration styles with traditional cartooning techniques. Issue #248 belongs to a period when the magazine was deeply integrated into the Cuban social fabric, often featuring recurring characters that personified the titular Fox and Crow to navigate bureaucratic absurdities. It remains a significant artifact for those studying Latin American print media and the history of political illustration under socialism.
