Oltretomba Kleur #11

Oltretomba Kleur was a Dutch-language horror comic anthology published in the 1970s by Nederlandse Periodieken Combinatie. The series served as a localized collection of Italian fumetti neri, specifically drawing from the dark, macabre storytelling traditions popularized by series like Kriminal and Satanik. Issue #11 fits into this broader landscape of European pulp horror, which focused on sensationalist plots, suspense, and gritty, high-contrast black-and-white or limited-palette artwork designed to appeal to adult readers seeking provocative genre fiction.

The visual identity of this series leaned heavily on the illustrative styles common to the Italian studios of the era, where artists often favored dynamic compositions and stark shadows to emphasize the suspenseful and often supernatural subject matter. As an imported and translated format, the publication provided European readers with affordable access to the underground horror tropes that dominated the 1960s and 70s Continental comic market. While the individual creators were frequently obscured by editorial house pseudonyms, the series is now recognized as a distinct artifact of mid-century European pop culture and the darker side of comic publishing.
