Oltretomba Kleur #4

Oltretomba Kleur emerged during the 1970s as a Dutch-language publication series focused on the horror and gothic comics genre. It was part of a broader wave of European adult-oriented comic magazines that brought darker, pulp-inspired narratives to a wider audience, often repackaging Italian fumetti neri or similar atmospheric stories with striking, illustrative covers that emphasized themes of mystery and the macabre.

The series relied on a distinct visual style intended to evoke the classic aesthetic of exploitation comics. While the specific artists for individual issues were often uncredited or part of a collective pool of illustrators working within the publisher's stable, the design philosophy prioritized dramatic lighting and bold color palettes. These issues were received by collectors as quintessential examples of European kitsch-horror, valued more for their evocative cover art and historical snapshot of the era's counter-culture than for their literary narrative.
