Where it came from
Oltretomba Speciaal was part of a popular series of Italian horror comics published by Edizioni ErreGì during the 1970s. These 'fumetti neri' were produced to satisfy a significant post-war demand for darker, adult-oriented pulp fiction, often featuring supernatural themes, eroticism, and macabre storytelling that pushed the boundaries of contemporary moral standards in Italy.
The visual style of the series was characterized by gritty black-and-white illustrations that prioritized atmosphere and tension over refined artistry. These issues were designed as inexpensive, disposable entertainment meant for newsstand distribution, resulting in a distinct aesthetic that captured the experimental and often provocative spirit of the Italian comic book industry during this era.
