Oltretomba Speciaal #133

Oltretomba Speciaal was part of a broader landscape of Italian fumetti neri, or dark comics, which gained significant popularity during the 1960s and 1970s. These pocket-sized publications often featured horror, suspense, and erotic themes, targeting a mature audience that sought visceral, low-cost entertainment. Issue #133 fits into this legacy of pulpy storytelling, serving as a reflection of the era's fascination with the macabre and the Gothic aesthetic that defined much of the Italian independent comic book scene of the period.

The visual identity of these issues was characterized by stark, high-contrast black and white illustrations that emphasized atmospheric tension and dramatic silhouettes. Designers and artists working within the Oltretomba imprint were tasked with creating evocative covers and interior sequences that leaned heavily into shock value and suspense to differentiate their work on crowded newsstands. While the specific creative teams for individual issues often remained anonymous or credited under house pseudonyms, their collective output contributed to a distinct cult following that persists among vintage horror comic enthusiasts today.
