Oltretomba Speciaal #143

Oltretomba Speciaal was part of a long-running Italian horror comic series published by Edizioni ErreGì starting in the early 1970s. This series, along with its sister publications like Oltretomba, tapped into the widespread popularity of 'fumetti neri' or adult-oriented gothic horror comics that flourished in Italy during that era. Issue number 143 fits into the mid-to-late production run of the series, a time when the format was characterized by low-budget, gritty black-and-white printing and sensationalized covers intended to draw in readers at local newsstands.

The aesthetic of the series was heavily influenced by the pulp horror genre, often featuring recurring tropes of ghosts, occult mysteries, and macabre themes common to European horror comics of the 1970s. Because these publications were treated as ephemeral entertainment rather than collector's items at the time of their release, individual issues like 143 are often anonymous in their creative credits. The production focused primarily on high-output serialization to satisfy a niche but dedicated audience, with the design serving as a hallmark of the period's fast-paced, industrial approach to newsstand comic publishing.
