Oltretomba Speciaal #146

Oltretomba Speciaal was part of a popular wave of Italian gothic horror fumetti that emerged in the 1970s. This series, published by Ediperiodici, was designed to satisfy a burgeoning market for macabre, suspense-filled stories featuring dark themes, often characterized by gritty, low-budget aesthetics and dramatic, black-and-white illustrations that leaned into the 'fotoromanzi' and horror-pulp traditions of the era.

The creative direction behind these issues typically involved an anonymous or rotating pool of artists and writers adhering to a standardized house style, prioritizing sensationalist cover art and narrative tropes common to adult-oriented horror comics of the time. While these publications were often viewed as disposable entertainment upon their release, they have since become significant artifacts for collectors documenting the evolution of Italian genre fiction and the specific cultural appetite for graphic, transgressive storytelling in the late 20th century.
