Oltretomba Speciaal #147

Oltretomba Speciaal was part of a broader landscape of Italian fumetti neri, or dark comics, which gained significant traction during the 1960s and 1970s. Published by Edizioni ErreGI, these pocket-sized horror anthologies were designed for mass-market newsstand distribution, catering to an audience fascinated by the macabre, the supernatural, and the grotesque. Issue number 147 fits into this ongoing series of independent, episodic stories that relied on suspense and shock value to maintain reader interest.

The aesthetic of Oltretomba was defined by high-contrast black-and-white ink work, typical of the low-budget printing standards of the era. These comics prioritized narrative punch over elaborate production, often featuring anonymous or pseudonym-heavy creative teams working under tight deadlines. While the creators are rarely credited in individual issues, the series serves as a notable historical artifact of Italy's pulp publishing culture, reflecting the post-war obsession with horror cinema and gothic literature.
