Where it came from
Oltretomba Speciaal was part of a popular series of Italian horror comics published by Edizioni ErreGì during the late 1960s and 1970s. These pocket-sized comics, known as fumetti neri, emerged during a period when Italy was experimenting with darker, more adult-oriented themes in popular media, often focusing on supernatural elements, gothic horror, and suspenseful narratives intended for a mature audience.
The design of these issues typically featured minimalist, often unsettling cover illustrations that utilized high-contrast colors and striking layouts to capture the attention of newsstand shoppers. While the interior stories were often produced by various uncredited studio artists and writers, the series is remembered for its distinct aesthetic that mirrored the gritty, experimental nature of the Italian horror boom of the era.
