Our Fighting Forces #180

Published by DC Comics in 1978, Our Fighting Forces #180 occupies a unique position in the publisher’s late-Bronze Age history. The series had transitioned from its long-standing focus on the Haunted Tank to featuring The Losers, a team of soldiers who found themselves caught in increasingly grim and surreal combat scenarios. By this stage in the series, the editorial direction emphasized a grittier, more psychological approach to war storytelling compared to the idealized action of earlier decades.

The creative direction for this period reflected a move toward more character-driven narratives within the anthology format. The issue showcases the house style prevalent at DC during the late 1970s, utilizing a standard collaborative process between writers and artists who were balancing established military tropes with the shifting sensibilities of a modern readership. While the title is fondly remembered for its contributions to DC’s war line, it remains a product of the industry's experimental period before the comic market underwent significant structural changes in the early 1980s.
