Our Fighting Forces #178

Published by DC Comics in 1978, Our Fighting Forces #178 arrived during the final years of the title's long-running publication history. Originally launched in 1954, the series was a cornerstone of DC's war comics line, famously serving as the home for the Losers—a group of soldiers whose adventures were marked by a gritty, tragic tone that distinguished them from the more triumphant portrayals of conflict found in earlier Golden Age stories.

This specific issue features the creative talents common to the era's bronze age war titles, emphasizing character-driven narratives within the chaos of the battlefield. The series was noted for its focus on the camaraderie and inevitable mortality of its leads, a thematic direction that resonated with readers who appreciated the more somber, humanized depiction of soldiers. While DC's war titles began to lose their foothold against the rising popularity of superhero comics by the late 1970s, this issue stands as a representative example of the publisher's commitment to the genre's legacy.
