Sam Slade Robo-Hunter #7

Sam Slade, Robo-Hunter first appeared in the pages of 2000 AD in 1978, created by writer John Wagner and artist Ian Gibson. The series was designed as a satirical take on the hardboiled detective genre, transplanting the archetypal trench-coated private eye into a future where robots were ubiquitous but frequently malfunctioning. It emerged during a period of high creativity for British comics, utilizing the medium's penchant for dark humor and cynical, high-stakes science fiction.

Issue 7 contributes to the established lore of the character, reinforcing the gritty, comedic aesthetic that Ian Gibson became famous for. Gibson's dense, highly detailed ink work was instrumental in defining the visual language of the strip, emphasizing the contrast between the grimy, cluttered reality of human existence and the sleek, often absurd manifestations of robot life. The series was well-received by readers for its ability to balance slapstick elements with genuine world-building, cementing Sam Slade as one of the most recognizable figures in 2000 AD’s stable.
