Where it came from
Stormwatch #11 was published by Image Comics in 1994 as part of the initial wave of the WildStorm imprint founded by Jim Lee. The series was designed to explore a United Nations-sanctioned team of superhumans tasked with global intervention, a concept intended to ground superhero tropes within a more cynical, geopolitical framework. This issue arrived during a formative period for the series, contributing to the establishment of the darker, high-stakes aesthetic that would eventually evolve into the more subversive Authority franchise.
The issue features the creative work of writer Brandon Choi and illustrator Jim Lee, who sought to blend traditional superhero dynamics with the intense, kinetic art style that defined the Image Comics revolution of the early 1990s. While Stormwatch was primarily a vehicle for world-building within the shared WildStorm universe, this period is noted by collectors for its exploration of internal team conflict and the heavy influence of the emerging creator-owned movement, which prioritized visual flair and dramatic, blockbuster-style storytelling.
