The Pink Panther #55

Published in 1978, The Pink Panther issue number 55 was part of the long-running Gold Key Comics series that brought the beloved animated character to print. The series was developed following the international success of the theatrical shorts and television segments, aiming to capture the slapstick, wordless humor of the screen persona within a static, visual medium. By the late 1970s, the comics served as a staple for children's entertainment, reflecting the lighthearted aesthetic that defined the character since his debut in the 1963 film title sequence.

The creative direction for this series relied heavily on the visual language established by Friz Freleng and David DePatie. The artists and writers tasked with translating the Panther's silent, comedic pantomime into panel-based storytelling focused on simple, gag-driven plots that mirrored the pacing of the original cartoons. While the Gold Key run was generally received as a modest commercial endeavor aimed at a younger demographic, it remains a recognized artifact of the era's tie-in comic culture, celebrated today by enthusiasts for its nostalgic character design and consistent adherence to the source material's tone.
