The Pink Panther #6

The Pink Panther #6 was published in 1975 by Gold Key Comics, a prominent imprint of Western Publishing. The comic was produced during the height of the character's popularity, following the success of the animated theatrical shorts and the iconic opening title sequences from the film franchise directed by Blake Edwards. Like much of the output from Gold Key during this era, the series served as a kid-friendly companion to the animated antics, translating the silent, slapstick humor of the panther into a medium that relied on sight gags and visual storytelling.

The aesthetic of the series leaned heavily into the visual language established by Friz Freleng and Hawley Pratt, the original designers of the animated character. Illustrators for the comic were tasked with capturing the panther's cool, aloof persona and his penchant for wordless schemes that inevitably went awry. While these comics were intended for a mass-market audience and sold primarily on newsstands and in drugstores, they are now viewed as nostalgic artifacts of 1970s animation history, appreciated by collectors for their clean, mid-century graphic sensibilities.
