Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker #125

Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker issue number 125 was published by Dell Comics in 1963 as part of their long-running Four Color and subsequent solo title series. By the early 1960s, the Woody Woodpecker comic line had become a staple of the Dell-Western Publishing partnership, bringing the manic energy of Lantz's theatrical cartoons to the print medium. These comics served to maintain the character's cultural visibility during periods when new theatrical shorts were being produced less frequently.

The creative direction for these issues focused on translating slapstick animation timing into a sequential panel format, often featuring gag-heavy scripts that highlighted the character's mischievous persona. The artwork in this era typically followed the established house style developed by artists working under the Lantz studio's license, emphasizing expressive character silhouettes and vibrant, high-contrast layouts. While not intended as high-concept art, these issues are appreciated by collectors for their historical connection to the mid-century animation industry and the standardized production techniques of the Golden Age of comics.
