Where it came from
The Cheshire Cat Pop! figure, number 178 in the Disney series, was released by Funko to celebrate the enduring legacy of the 1951 animated classic, Alice in Wonderland. This specific version features a flocked texture, a design choice intended to replicate the soft, velvety appearance of the character's mischievous fur. It reflects Funko's broader strategy of utilizing specialized finishes to appeal to collectors seeking tactile variations of iconic cinematic figures.
The design draws directly from the whimsical, surrealist aesthetic established by Disney's animators in the 1950s. By capturing the character in a signature floating pose with his wide, enigmatic grin, the sculpt aims to evoke the character's unpredictable nature within the narrative. The figure was well-received upon its release, finding its place among the most recognizable characters in the extensive Disney Pop! catalog, largely due to the unique sensory appeal provided by the flocking process.
