Where it came from
Hello Kitty was originally created by Yuko Shimizu for the Japanese company Sanrio in 1974, debuting as a character on a vinyl coin purse. Designed with a minimalist aesthetic, the character was intended to appeal to a sense of 'kawaii' or cuteness, helping to bridge the gap between simple stationary designs and global pop culture branding. Over five decades, she has evolved from a children's character into a massive international cultural icon recognized for her hallmark bow and absence of a visible mouth.
The Funko Pop! figure number 75 represents a celebration of the character's 50th anniversary, reflecting Sanrio's long-standing partnership with the collectible figurine brand. Designed in the signature Funko style—featuring a large, square head and button-like eyes—this piece pays tribute to the character's classic 1970s aesthetic. These figures are widely regarded by collectors as accessible tributes to nostalgic franchises, capturing the core essence of the character while fitting within the broader Sanrio licensing ecosystem.
