Where it came from
Kirara, the faithful demon cat companion from the Inuyasha anime and manga series, was released as part of the Funko Pop! Animation line in 2021. As a fan-favorite character known for her ability to transform from a small, kitten-like creature into a large, saber-toothed beast used for travel, she represents a significant piece of the franchise's merchandise history. The figure captures her smaller, endearing form, consistent with the stylized aesthetic Funko employs for its extensive library of licensed animation characters.
The design process for this Pop! figure focuses on Kirara's signature two-tailed appearance and her cream-colored fur with black markings. Like other entries in the Animation series, the figure was created to appeal to both long-time followers of Rumiko Takahashi’s work and newer audiences introduced to the series through streaming platforms. Upon its release, it was received as a standard but essential addition for collectors building out their Inuyasha character rosters, reflecting the enduring popularity of the series decades after its original inception.
