Where it came from
Kuromi was introduced by Sanrio in 2005 as a mischievous rival to My Melody, originally appearing in the anime series Onegai My Melody. Characterized by her iconic black jester's hat with a pink skull, she represents a punk-inspired, rebellious aesthetic that contrasts with the traditional cuteness of the brand. Her design was crafted to appeal to fans who preferred a slightly edgier, more assertive persona within the Sanrio universe.
The Funko Pop! figure, number 110 in the Sanrio series, commemorates the character's long-standing popularity and evolution into a global icon. Funko designed this figure to capture her signature smirk and signature color palette, aligning with their goal of blending classic pop culture figures with their distinct vinyl aesthetic. It has been well-received by fans of the Sanrio franchise as a quintessential representation of the character's recognizable visual identity.
