Where it came from
Kuromi was introduced by Sanrio in 2005 as a rival character to My Melody, originally appearing in the anime series Onegai My Melody. Designed with a distinct punk-inspired aesthetic featuring a black jester's hat with a pink skull, she was created to embody a mischievous but charming personality, contrasting with the sweetness typically associated with the Sanrio brand. Over the two decades since her debut, she has evolved from a secondary character into one of the brand's most popular figures.
This Funko Pop! figure, numbered 115 within the Sanrio series, was released to commemorate the character's 20th anniversary. The design honors her signature look, capturing her recognizable jester motif and rebellious spirit in the standard stylized vinyl format. The piece reflects the ongoing collaboration between Sanrio and Funko, serving as a collectible milestone that marks Kuromi's significant cultural transition from a niche antagonist to a global pop-culture icon.
