Where it came from
Kuromi, the mischievous rival character created by Sanrio in 2005, joined the Funko Pop! Sanrio line as part of an effort to broaden the appeal of the franchise beyond Hello Kitty. This specific Translucent Purple variant was released as a stylized collectible, reimagining the character with a semi-transparent aesthetic that reflects her edgy, punk-inspired personality and signature black jester hat.
The design draws heavily from Kuromi's original aesthetic, which blends goth-influenced fashion with Sanrio's hallmark cute style. By utilizing a translucent material, the designers sought to provide a fresh visual take on a classic character, marking a departure from the standard matte vinyl finishes typical of the Pop! series. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans of the Sanrio universe, particularly those drawn to limited-edition variations of beloved characters.
