Where it came from
Kuromi was introduced by Sanrio in 2005 as a mischievous rival to My Melody, characterized by her black jester’s hat and pink skull emblem. Her design, which blends a punk-goth aesthetic with the company's traditional 'kawaii' style, was intended to broaden Sanrio's appeal toward a slightly edgier demographic while maintaining the brand's core values of sweetness and personality.
This Funko Pop! figure, part of the Sanrio series released around 2021, captures Kuromi in her classic pose. As a Hot Topic exclusive release, it became a focal point for collectors interested in the intersection of character-based nostalgia and modern stylized vinyl figures. The figure was received well by Sanrio enthusiasts, reflecting the enduring popularity of Kuromi's rebellious persona within the wider Hello Kitty universe.
