Where it came from
The Lock Pop! Pez dispenser, numbered 172, was released as part of Funko's crossover series combining their stylized Pop! aesthetic with the classic collectible Pez dispenser mechanism. It is based on the character from the 1993 film The Nightmare Before Christmas, though it was released long after the film's initial run as part of the broader expansion of the Pop! Pez line that flourished in the late 2010s. The design simplifies the character's mischievous, masked features into the iconic large-headed, wide-eyed proportions characteristic of Funko's brand identity.
The series was designed to appeal to both nostalgia-driven collectors and fans of the Funko Pop! ecosystem, bridging the gap between functional candy dispensers and display-ready figurines. Funko utilized their established mold-making processes to ensure the characters maintained their recognizable silhouettes while fitting the standard Pez-compatible base. Upon release, the line was generally received as a playful, accessible entry point for pop culture enthusiasts looking to decorate workspaces or shelves with recognized cinematic iconography.
