Metalhead

Metalhead was released by Funko as part of the Pop! Retro Toys series, commemorating the iconic robot character from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. Originally introduced in the 1987 animated series as a robotic double created by Krang and Shredder to eliminate the turtles, the character quickly became a fan favorite due to his unique ability to mimic the skills and personalities of the protagonists. Funko designed this figure to capture his metallic aesthetic and robotic features, aligning with the brand's goal of celebrating nostalgic properties from the 1980s and 1990s.

The design process for this Pop! figure focused on translating the complex robotic details of the source material into the signature minimalist Funko style. By emphasizing the character's glowing eyes and mechanical armor, the designers aimed to balance the charm of the Pop! vinyl aesthetic with the inherently industrial nature of the character. Upon release, the figure was well-received by collectors of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, who valued it as a representation of the series' secondary characters that are often overlooked in standard toy lines.
