Where it came from
Released as part of the Funko Pop! Movies line in 2021, the Scorpion figure corresponds with the theatrical debut of the Mortal Kombat reboot. It was designed to celebrate the character's iconic aesthetic, specifically drawing on his updated cinematic appearance. The piece reflects the enduring popularity of the Mortal Kombat franchise, which has transitioned from its 1990s arcade origins into a multimedia cultural phenomenon.
The figure was produced with a rare chase variant, which is differentiated from the standard release by a masked or alternate pose design. Funko often utilizes these chase variations to incentivize collectors and tap into the tradition of limited-edition toy production. Upon release, the figure was well-received by fans of the series, serving as a staple representation of Scorpion, arguably the most recognizable character in the Mortal Kombat mythos.
