Where it came from
The Skull Bob Funko Pop, numbered 253 in the Ad Icons series, was released to commemorate the historical mascot of the Jack in the Box restaurant chain. Initially introduced in the mid-1990s as a replacement for the brand’s previous clown figure, the character—often referred to as 'Jack'—underwent a significant modern rebranding effort that leaned into a more cynical, corporate, and satirical persona. This specific iteration captures the character with a skeletal aesthetic, nodding to the brand’s long-standing use of a round-headed, masked figure that has become a staple of American fast-food marketing.
The design of the figure adheres to Funko's signature stylized aesthetic, featuring the oversized head and minimalist details typical of the Pop! line. By incorporating the Jack in the Box icon into the Ad Icons collection, Funko aimed to tap into the nostalgia of pop-culture enthusiasts who grew up during the height of the mascot's television advertising campaigns. Upon release, the item was received as a niche collectible for those interested in the history of advertising mascots and the broader subculture of branded character merchandise.
