Where it came from
Sukjai was introduced as part of the Pop! Asia series, a branch of the Funko Pop line dedicated to characters and cultural icons specific to Asian markets. The character itself serves as the official mascot for the Tourism Authority of Thailand, designed to embody the friendly, hospitable, and serene spirit of the Thai people. This specific glow-in-the-dark variant was released to capture interest from collectors who favor unique material finishes on standard figures.
The figure design mirrors the traditional representation of Sukjai, characterized by his bright smile, traditional attire, and the 'wai' gesture, which is a respectful greeting in Thai culture. Funko adapted the character into their signature aesthetic, simplifying the features while maintaining the mascot's iconic color palette. As part of a regional collection, this item was initially targeted toward the Southeast Asian market, gaining popularity among international collectors who appreciate the diverse range of mascots Funko has highlighted globally.
