Where it came from
Released in early 2023, the Series 24 Collectible Minifigures (set 71037) marked a significant milestone as the final iteration of LEGO's long-standing blind-bag packaging format. The collection features twelve original characters, ranging from the Brown Astronaut and Spacebaby to the T-Rex Costume Fan, designed to celebrate a diverse array of hobbyists and fantasy archetypes. Each figure was crafted to showcase advanced printing techniques and unique molded accessories, continuing the company’s tradition of high-detail character design.
The series was developed by the LEGO design team to provide a broad appeal to both children and adult collectors. By moving away from specific licensed themes, the designers were able to experiment with eclectic concepts like the Carrot Mascot and the Rockin' Horse Rider. Upon release, the series was well-received for its whimsical character selection and was noted in the industry as the swan song for the opaque polybag era, as the company subsequently transitioned toward more sustainable, paper-based packaging for future blind-box releases.
