Where it came from
Released in 2011, LEGO Minifigures Series 5 continued the blind-bag marketing strategy that revitalized the company's collectible output. The series was designed to appeal to both younger builders and adult collectors by offering a diverse array of unique, detailed characters that were not tied to any specific licensed theme, allowing for greater creative freedom in costume design and accessories.
The figures in this series, including characters like the Graduate, the Ice Fisherman, and the Egyptian Queen, were crafted to showcase advanced printing techniques and unique molded pieces. Upon release, the series was well-received by the fan community, who appreciated the increased variety and the challenge of finding specific figures within the opaque packaging, solidifying the blind-bag format as a staple of the LEGO business model for years to follow.
