Where it came from
Released in 1983 as part of the Lego Duplo series, the Racing Tiger set 1404-1 was designed to provide younger children with a simple, engaging building experience centered on animal-themed play. This era of Duplo focused on chunky, durable elements that emphasized tactile exploration and basic motor skills, catering to toddlers who were just beginning to transition from larger-scale floor play to more structured construction.
The set features a distinctive, stylized tiger figure, which was representative of the broader effort by Lego to introduce recognizable characters into the Duplo ecosystem during the early 1980s. The design prioritized rounded edges and safe, primary-colored bricks that reflected the design philosophy of the time, aiming to stimulate imaginative narratives while ensuring durability for its intended demographic.
