Where it came from
Released in 2007 as part of the Lego Star Wars theme, the Trade Federation MTT (Multi-Troop Transport) was designed to commemorate the tenth anniversary of The Phantom Menace. It was engineered to capture the imposing scale of the ground assault vehicle from the Battle of Naboo, featuring a signature motorized rack system that allowed for the deployment of a full contingent of battle droids, a functionality that significantly distinguished it from earlier iterations of the set.
The set was received positively by collectors for its technical complexity and the inclusion of twenty battle droids, which provided high play value and display accuracy. The design team focused on balancing the internal storage capacity with the external aesthetic of the vehicle's heavily armored, rounded chassis, a challenging feat given the limitations of contemporary brick geometry and the weight of the integrated deployment mechanism.
