Where it came from
The Ancestral Guitar was introduced as part of the core set for the Hyperia City trading card game, reflecting the series' thematic blend of cyberpunk urbanism and reclaimed ancient aesthetics. Released during the game's initial expansion phase, it was designed to serve as a versatile utility card, allowing players to bridge the gap between high-tech gear and traditional craft within the game's narrative lore.
The art direction for the piece was led by the Hyperia design team, who aimed to evoke a sense of grounding and history amidst the game's futuristic setting. By contrasting the sleek, metallic motifs of the city with the organic silhouette of a vintage acoustic instrument, the illustrators sought to emphasize the importance of memory in a rapidly digitizing world. It has remained a common staple of the set, valued primarily for its consistent functional role rather than its aesthetic rarity.
