Mickey Mouse

The Hyperia City trading card set emerged as a niche, avant-garde collectible project designed to reimagine iconic cultural figures through the lens of a retro-futuristic urban aesthetic. Card number 23, featuring Mickey Mouse, was conceptualized by a collective of underground illustrators aiming to strip away the character's traditional corporate art style in favor of a gritty, cyberpunk-influenced design. This super-rare variant was released to contrast the set's standard character roster, intended to appeal to collectors who favor dark, speculative reimagining of nostalgic pop culture icons.

The reception of the Hyperia City set was largely confined to high-end hobby circles, where the character cards were noted for their distinct metallic card-stock and minimalist, high-contrast imagery. The Mickey Mouse design specifically drew attention for its departure from established animation norms, sparking debates among enthusiasts about the boundaries of character licensing and artistic expression in the secondary collectibles market. Since its limited release, the card has gained a reputation as a difficult-to-acquire piece that encapsulates the experimental spirit of the mid-2010s independent card design movement.
