Where it came from
Abundance was included in the Warhammer 40,000 Commander set released by Wizards of the Coast in 2022. This collection was born from a collaboration between the card game Magic: The Gathering and the tabletop wargame Warhammer 40,000, designed to introduce iconic factions and themes from the grimdark science-fiction universe into the Commander format. The card serves as a thematic inclusion within the 'Tyranid Swarm' deck, representing the relentless biological consumption and growth of the Tyranid hive fleet.
The artwork for this specific printing was produced by artist Campbell White. In keeping with the aesthetic of the Tyranid faction, the illustration emphasizes organic, predatory textures and the swarm's focus on resource assimilation. Within the mechanics of the game, the card's function of manipulating library cards into hand selection mirrors the Tyranids' ability to adapt and sustain their forces, and it was received as a functional, flavorful inclusion for players looking to enhance their deck's consistency.
