Ajani, Strength of the Pride

Ajani, Strength of the Pride was originally released in the 2019 Core Set for Magic: The Gathering, designed as a planeswalker card that pays homage to Ajani Goldmane, one of the game's most enduring and iconic characters. The card was crafted to support white-aligned lifegain strategies, featuring abilities that mirror the character's thematic focus on protection and camaraderie. Its inclusion in 'The List' is part of a curated initiative by Wizards of the Coast to periodically re-release notable cards from throughout Magic's history within modern booster packs, ensuring that players have ongoing access to key cards that shaped past gameplay environments.

The artwork for the card follows the long-standing tradition of depicting Ajani as a leonine warrior with a strong sense of moral conviction. Like many cards in the series, the visual direction focuses on capturing the character's heroic stature and his signature leonin features. Upon its debut, the card was well-received by players focusing on tribal and lifegain-themed decks, as its ultimate ability provided a powerful, thematic reset for the board state that felt true to the character's legacy as a mentor and protector within the game's multiverse.
