Where it came from
Ajani, Strength of the Pride was originally released in the 2019 Core Set and later featured as a reprint in the Jumpstart 2022 set. The character of Ajani Goldmane, a leonin planeswalker, has been a central figure in Magic: The Gathering lore since his debut, representing a protector archetype whose mechanics often revolve around life-gain and creature synergy. This particular version serves as a powerful utility card that can create a board state capable of stabilizing a player’s position in both casual and competitive formats.
The card’s design aims to capture Ajani’s role as an inspiring leader. Its illustration, consistent with the planeswalker’s updated aesthetic, emphasizes his stoic nature and physical stature. In the context of Jumpstart 2022, a set designed to facilitate quick, accessible play through themed packs, this reprint provided players with a reliable win condition that fits seamlessly into white-aligned life-gain strategies, earning appreciation from players who value both its thematic resonance and its direct mechanical utility.
