Ajani's Chosen

Ajani's Chosen was first introduced in the Magic: The Gathering core set Magic 2014, designed as part of a cycle of enchantments that reward players for casting other enchantment spells. The card embodies the lore of the leonin planeswalker Ajani Goldmane, specifically reflecting his ties to white-aligned magic and his role as a mentor and protector. In the context of Commander 2015, the card was reprinted as part of the 'Call the Spirits' deck, which focused on enchantment synergies and graveyard recursion, making it a functional cornerstone for players utilizing that specific deck strategy.

The artwork for this particular printing was illustrated by Greg Staples, who is known for his atmospheric and textured approach to character portraiture within the game. Staples' design emphasizes the stalwart nature of the leonin warrior, utilizing lighting and composition to ground the character in a moment of readiness. The card received a favorable reception from players who favor enchantment-themed decks, as its ability to generate creature tokens provides consistent board presence that scales effectively throughout the duration of a multiplayer Commander match.
